With sunny weather and cool temperatures, as well as oceans of green grass, all horses thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. In addition, the ranch dogs had a great weekend because the humans had so much food, and drank just enough wine to occasionally drop juicy tidbits in the BBQ area.
What about the humans? Well, you’ll have to ask Maribeth, Kim, Cynthia, Sunni, Jayette, Elizabeth, Rod, Laura, Debra, Shawn, and Susan personally. Aside from the sole male who was harassed continually, they all seemed to enjoy the wildflowers, grand vistas, camping next to a pond with expansive views of the hills and valley, the wild turkey’s, the cattle “outstanding in their pastures”, social hours, and food. Adding to the human pleasure, all horses decided to allow their riders to stay in their saddles the entire weekend. No one was ejected into “spring fresh” cow pies!
Saturday was a short hour and half ride through pines, oaks, and meadows over looking the Salinas Valley. Sunday’s ride in the Santa Lucia Mountains, on an old wagon road to Monterey, passed an old Indian village and homestead sites. The views at the top of the ranch overlooked Monterey and the Big Sur coast range.
We thank the rain gods for a momentary break in their continuing effort to keep the wildflowers glowing and the grass green!
Form all the MBE members, Thank you Susan & Rod for the privilege for riding at you beautiful ranch
